Red Pear Honey Crostini

I was walking through the produce section of our local Windmill Farms and saw a bin of red pears, I just had to grab one. The last time I remember eating any fresh pear I was about 4 years old, not kidding.

My initial intention was to photograph it. Something about the deep red color, it says Fall all over it. I got it home and washed it off then I tried to take the little sticker off and it took half of that beautiful red skin with it. I was devastated. There goes my photo opportunity. Time for plan B.

Since I haven’t really eaten a pear in so long, I wasn’t sure what to do with it, or even how to cut it. Well I just started slicing. And then I tasted it, amazing! I think I had the idea that it was going to be gritty for some reason, but it wasn’t at all, it was soft and incredibly sweet.

Red Pear Honey Crostini

  • Heat oven to 400 degrees. Slice some fresh sourdough, drizzle the slices with olive oil, then toast them for about 3 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and let them cool for a minute.
  • Spread a generous amount of goat cheese and place a few red pear slices on each toast.
  • Next, drizzle with honey, sprinkle with red pepper flakes and just a light dusting of ginger powder.
  • Place back in the oven for 2-3 minutes or till the cheese gets warm.
Taaduh! You have an easy, delicious, healthy-ish appetizer or snack your friends and family will love!
